Larry Hagman the Dallas star who played the evil J.R. Ewing has died. Hagman was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at a hospital in Dallas. He was 81 years old. The actor died from complications from a recent battle with cancer.
“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” a spokesperson for the family said. “Larry’s family and close friends had joined him in Dallas for the Thanksgiving holiday. When he passed, he was surrounded by loved ones. It was a peaceful passing, just as he had wished for. The family requests privacy at this time.” Hagman’s Dallas co-stars Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy were at his bedside when he passed away. The actor played J.R. Ewing from 1978 to 1991.
In 2012 he returned when the series was revived. Hagman had already filmed scenes for the second season of the TNT series, which will premiere on January 28, 2013 with a two-hour event.
The tv legend is survived by his wife, Maj Axelsson, and their two children, Heidi and Preston.
TNT, the network that airs the series, adds, ” All of us at TNT are deeply saddened at the news of Larry Hagman’s passing. He was a wonderful human being and an extremely gifted actor. We will be forever thankful that a whole new generation of people got to know and appreciate Larry through his performance as J.R. Ewing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time.”
