American Idol Season 12 Judges Finally Announced!

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

American Idol‘s season 12 judges have been officially announced  — Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj are joining Randy Jackson. Jackson was thought to have his foot out the door, but he remains an Idol staple. Urban and Minaj had been rumored to be in the mix, but now it’s definite. See the new Idol family photo left!

The payday for Minaj is reported to be $12 million for a one-year deal. Urban’s camp wouldn’t state the Aussie’s compensation.

These three will join Mariah Carey on the panel now expanded to four members from its previous three. Carey is receiving just shy of $18 million for a one-year contract with a renewal option.

At Lincoln Center auditions Urban said he plans to be an authentic but not cruel to the contestants. ”I did similar shows when I was very young in Australia and I was sort of crucified by one judge. So I don’t know that I’ll ever be THAT guy.”  Minaj said she’s looking for “a superstar, something that can’t be defined in words.” Jackson called Minaj and Urban “fresh, fresh, fresh!” At least he didn’t call them “dawg”!

Minaj, he said, “brings a whole other cool vibe we’ve never had on the show, and Keith Urban? My God, he’s unbelievably talented!”

Carey said she didn’t know what kind of judge she would be. ”Am I the mean one? Am I the nice one? … It’s not about me, me, me, it’s about them (the contestants) and what I can bring to them to help guide them in the right direction.”

The 12th season premieres in January.

New Idol Phillip Phillips! Finale Has It All…Even A Marriage Proposal!

Thursday, May 24th, 2012

Quite a night for all of us at the Nokia Theatre L.A.Live!  ISH favorite Phillip Phillips humbly accepted the title as Season 11′s American Idol. Throughout the season, his quiet confidence and humility showed a maturity that set him apart from the other contestants.

Phillips  wowed the judges and obviously the viewers last night with his final performance of the song “Home.”

“I wanted to do my own stuff, but we only had a certain amount of time to do everything, so I had to do that one, and it’s a really good song. The writers are really good. It’s not really something I would write, so I’m excited to get my own stuff out there,” Phillips said of the song that gave him his standing ovation, also one that probably sealed the deal for the “Idol” crown.

The singer/songwriter from Georgia has been putting off much needed surgery to repair his kidneys while going after his dream on Idol. Throughout the season Phillip was quite self directed for a 21 year old – even turning down fashion advice from Tommy Hilfiger.  It was only at the finale that we caught a glimpse of the impact that the win had on him.  He dropped his guard during his final performance – fighting back tears while only half way through the song he left the stage collapsing into the arms of his family.

The show had quite a line up Chaka Khan sang with the girls in a group performance and the boys backed up  Neil Diamond, John Fogerty  joined Phillip Phillips in a duet, Reba McEntire paired up with Skylar Laine and Season 3 Idol winner Fantasia performed a duet with her “Mantasia,” Joshua LedetJessica Sanchez performed And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going withJennifer Holliday and Hollie Cavanagh sang with with season six winner, Jordan Sparks.

And if that wasn’t  enough star power Rihanna was on the bill along with Idol’s own  Steven Tyler and his band Aerosmith and Jennifer Lopez and her touring partners Wisin Y Yandel, performing their single Follow The Leader!

As if that wasn’t enough the evening’s capper was when season five finalist Ace Young got down on his knee and proposed marriage to season three runner up Diana Dr Garmo …she said yes!

American Idol’s Jermaine Jones Reportedly Wanted In Three Counties!

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

American Idol didn’t wait for our votes to oust “the gentle giant”!  Jermaine Jones is apparently out after producers learned Tuesday that the singer had concealed he had been arrested twice.

The fact that one of the incidents involved violence was a problem for producers.

It’s reported that Jones is wanted in three seperate counties for failing to appear on a variety of criminal charges. Apparently he was arrested in 2006 during a narcotics bust, was cited for an open container charge in 2008 and in 2009 gave cops a false name to avoid being taken in on outstanding warrants for his previous arrests. He was arrested again later that year for trying to use a different fake name to avoid arrest.

The 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., tweeted Tuesday night that he would no longer be appearing on Idol.  He wrote on his official Idol Twitter account: “Awww I will no longer b on the show,” but the post was later deleted.

Jones was among the show’s viewer-selected top 13 finalists after the judges gave him a last-minute spot among the 11th s

eason’s top 13 male semifinalists. This isn’t new to Idol contestants in the past have been asked to leave when the show believes that their work or personal history is an issue.

ISH Exclusive Photo: American Idol’s Men Batting A Thousand!

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

American Idol best bros Heejun Han and Phillip Phillips hang out at the Beverly Center! ISH caught up with the finalists while they did a little shopping as they left their LA digs The Sofitel  Hotel next door.

Already fan favorites these two guys received accolades from the judges last night along with the other eleven guys…the only hit was in Heejun’s song choice, it wasn’t a favorite with the judges.

Phillips told ISH that his best bud was making a very serious phone call, and for Heejun that’s unusual because in the first five seconds of the show open Tuesday night the hilarious singer Heejun was already making us laugh by mouthing the words “This … is ‘American Idol’” over Ryan Seacrest’s shoulder.

Han also got a couple of  good one liners like: he wants to prove that  ”Asian people can not only get a high score on the SAT — Asian people can also melt their hearts.”

The competition is steep this year – the talent really is pretty good. It was tough enough that the judges have to go from 12 to 5 this week, but to mix it up further – the producers brought back Jermaine Jones, the “gentle giant” as number 13.
